Question: I am 71 years old and fairly active. I am a nurse and just retired last fall. In 2002 I had a left knee replacement. In 2009 I had a right knee replacement. I never had any problem with my knees until 3 weeks ago. Currently in the past 3 weeks I have had shooting pains in both knees. Even wakes me up at night. In July of this year I had a reverse right shoulder replacement. A month after that I had a bowel obstruction and lysis of adhesion. I really need my left should replaced and I am scheduled to have that done on Dec 1st of this year. The only time that I had an elevated temp was when I was in the ER. for the obstruction. Any idea why all of a sudden I should be having this pain?

Brief Answer:
Get your xrays of knee joint done.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

There are many reasons for your symptoms.

To make exact diagnosis I want to advise you xray of both knees standing in AP.

So please get your xray done and send me the report.

I want to see the present condition of your joints.

Till then do quadriceps strengthening exercises as uploaded on youtube, because in many patients weakness in quadriceps may also lead to pain.

You can apply ointment containing thiocochicoside three times a day by discussing it with your doctor.

Apply hot packs for 30 mins in morning and evening.
Avoid upstairs as much as you can.

I hope you have got your answer.

Thanks.

Dr.Singh.
