Question: Hello, i have a boil developing in my left armpit. I first noticed this two days back. It has been turning more painful ever since and the size of the lump has started to increase. Is there a medication that I should take to contain the growth of the boil and to keep the pain under check?

Brief Answer:
If increase in size with pain then it can be abscess.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM.

I have gone through your query. Boils in the armpit area can form abscess (collection of pus in cavity). This can rupture and drain itself after some day. But if pain and discomfort is more then you may need to do incision and drainage.

Initially you can apply betadine and Glycerine magsulf together on the area. This will help to rupture by itself. I usually give oral antibiotics like amoxicillin plus cloxacillin also for this in my patients.

If it is not rupturing and pain increases approach your doctor for incision and drainage of pus. After that dressing with betadine will help you recover.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
