Question: I just sneezed and blood started to run out of my left nostril. I had no injury in my nose, no illness. Should I be concerned?

Brief Answer:
common during winter season.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having bleeding per nose.

Bleeding per nose is more common in dry climates or during winter months. Heated, dry air can dehydrate the delicate tissue inside the nose resulting in crusting and cracking which creates nasal catarrh (tingling sensation), which leads to sneezes and epistaxis (forceful sneezing pressure causes removal of dried crusts leads to active bleeding).

To prevent drying of crusts, you can try over the counter nasal decongestant drops (xylometazoline 3 drops/3 times). In case of persistent nasal bleeding, needs to see an ent surgeon for the exact cause.

If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
