Posted on Mon, 22 Dec 2014
Question: I hit my left forehead on a beam. I did lose consciousness for a time. Now I have a very black eye, and also bruising on the inside corner of the right eye. I have no bleed marks in any eye. I don't have blurred vision.
This is the third day.

Brief Answer:
Requires evaluation to rule out head injury.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care Magic.

I am Dr. Dadapeer K, an ophthalmologist and I will be answering your question.

I reviewed your history.

It seems from the history that you had a injury to the head following which you are having black eye and bruise of the eye.

Black eye is because of coloration of blood in the layers of skin of the eyelid.
This will resolve by 1-2 weeks and no treatment is required.
Applying cold compression will help in early resolution.
If you have symptoms like double vision, blurred vision, pain on eye movements... it requires evaluation by ophthalmologist, otherwise no need to worry it will resolve.

But since you are having history of loss of consciousness further evaluation is required to rule out concussion injury of the brain.
The presence of symptoms like severe headache, loss of consciousness, nausea, vomiting will indicate presence of concussion injury.

Hence I advice you to consult your doctor for evaluation to rule out head injury.

Hope the information is helpful to you.

Do write back to me for further questions.

Thank you
