Question: I m a 23 years old girl.I have a black eye and it has been 4 weeks since . It has just faded by 40 percent. i had slipped and fallen and banged my left side of the head with the floor tiles. I underwent CT scan for brain and xray everything was normal. The pain swelling everything has gone . There is no problem with my eyesight also. I had got a terrible black eye. the entire area around eye had become jet black in a circle. now about 40 percent has only faded, Doctors told me it will go away in maximum 4 weeks but it hasnt. I m worried if this bruise is permanent ? initially is healed very fast but now it just seems to have become stagnant. I m extremely worried . I would like to know how much time more it will take for my eye to appear normal again? and is there anything i can do to speed up the process. I have been applying boroline, coconut oil regularly.

Brief Answer:
Recovery time is unpredictable...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I fully understand the nature of your concern. However if you had bleed considerably after the initial injury, the healing process is often delayed beyond 4 weeks. I am also not sure if you had iced the affected area after injury - that might have improved the healing time.

At this point, as it seems to be fading down you need not be concerned. Based on my experience, it might go down in the next 2 weeks. You should consult the doctor if it worsens however.

Avoid pressure. You can use warm and moist compresses when every couple of hours to fasten the process of healing. Do not sleep on the affected side and more important, make sure you sleep well.

Let me know if you need clarifications.

I had applied ice till the swelling subsided considerably and taken necessary steps like having chymoral forte. One thing I forgot to mention is I feel this bruise is changing color.it has turned to brownish from blackish purple.

Brief Answer:
change in color is normal...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Glad you iced it well. Now try warm and moist heat compresses to faster healing process.

Changing colour is normal. It happens with every bruise/haematoma/black eye. Over the period of next few days, the colour will get lighter and disappear.

Don't be worried. This will eventually disappear and will become as normal as it was before injury.

Hope this addressed your concern. Feel free to ask clarifications before closing discussion.

Best regards
