Question: My wife has bpd and trying to control her anger outburst. They are disrupting our life. Lamictal gave her an upset stomach but put her in a state of no motivation. What would you recommend for bipolar like manic states

Brief Answer:
Consultation

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.

Treatment of bipolar mania consists of three drug classes all together:

Benzodiazepine -- like clonazepam or lorazepam
Mood stabilizer -- like lithium, valproate, or lamotrigine
Neuroleptic -- like Geodon, risperidone, or olanzapine

It looks like she is not on all three drug classes, or the medications she is are not effective. She should be on all three, and if not effective (like lamotrigine) switch to a different drug in that class per my suggestions above.

She Is Ativan as well. I think increasing the geodone is the answer. Or trying something in the lamictal class. She also takes pristique and this helps the depression. And Dextroamphetamine for energy.

Increasing Geodon may indeed help. This would be the first thing I would do!
