Suggest Treatment For Bipolar Disorder

Question: If there is one thing I cannot stand, it's being "lumped" into a group of people based on a diagnosis that doesn't even have a sure-fire test. 10 years ago, I was diagnosed with bi-polar manic disorder, mixed. Now my new psychiatrist WILL NOT give me ritalin, which I have been on for years, because it "caused\s manic episodes" Well it darn sure does not with me. Ever since he took me off it, my life has gone to HELL. Can't think, remember, etc etc. I've tried different doctors but they all seem to be on the same page. What can I do to MAKE MY DOC UNDERSTAND THAT IT DOES NOT NOT HAVE THAT EFFECT ON ME AND TO NOT PUT ME IN THE BOX WITH EVERYONE ELSE? This is very serious as there have been many consequences for me not being able to take this medicine. How can I them understand?????

Brief Answer:
You can try another psycho-stimulant

Detailed Answer:
HI
Thanks for using healthcare magic. I, Dr Abhishek Kapoor, would help you in this query.

In your case. low concentration or difficulty in attention could be due to bipolar disorder. In that case, according to guideline, a psychiatrist or physician can prescribe ritalin (methylphenidate) in bipolar disorder. This could lead to manic switch. If you want to take a psycho-stimulant like ratalin, you can either try it in low dose with complete mood stabilizer back up or could try another psycho-stimulant like modafinil or armodafinil.

If you need further help, you can ask.
