Suggest Treatment For Bilateral Trigeminal Neuralgia And Occipital Neuralgia

default
Posted on Mon, 20 Mar 2017
Question: I have had bilateral trigeminal neuralgia and occipital neuralgia for 15 years. I had arthroscopic knee surgery due to injuring my medial lateral meniscus. A month after surgery I developed sudden onset of extrem pain in my right foot leg and hip. This is the same side where I had the knee repair after many X-rays and MRIs. I was diagnosed with RSD. What are the chances that I will be able to walk again or how long does this pain last. They have started me on lyrica which I was taking before the surgery then as of 01/01/2017. My insurance company does not cover the med. right now I'm using samples while we appeal the insurance companies denial. I've only been back on lyrica for three days. My biggest worry is that I may not get ride of the pain or my have to use a walker

Brief Answer:
The condition is poorly understood.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. Reflex sympathetic dystrophy of the knee (RSD) is a Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) and is unfortunately a poorly understood clinical entity. The proper diagnosis and treatment of RSD has remained an enigma to the treating physician. This confusion is largely due to the fact that the pathophysiology is poorly understood. However, there is still a significant possibility that you would be relieved of your pain and you would be able to walk freely.

I would insist you to go through the following academic publication:
