Posted on Thu, 13 Jul 2017
Question: I am 62 years old and have benign prostate enlargement. I want to know if I can have my prostate removed surgically and keep my testicles. I'm concerned if the testicles are removed, the removal of testosterone from my body will have negative side effects.

Brief Answer:
testicles are not usually removed

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is understandable to be concerned about possible removal of testicles, but this is not common procedure.

The testicles are not usually removed with a prostatectomy (removal of the prostate) unless there is a specific problem with the testes as well that requires them to be removed.

Prostatectomy is only considered in BPH (benign prostatic hypertrophy), if there are very significant changes affecting quality of life.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
