default
Posted on Mon, 17 Nov 2014
Question: Hi I started with a bad sinus infection over 6 weeks ago. I went to the ent and he prescribed augmentin 875mg for ten days and a medro predisone pack. the day after I say him it went into my lungs. I then saw my pulmonologist who extended the augmentin for another 7 days and put me on steriod taper for 12 days starting with 60 mg. I am done with the antibiotic and my prednisone is done this coming Tuesday. I am still wheezing and coughing up yellow mucus. Should I go to the hospital? I am getting worried. thank you

Brief Answer:
You need to go back to your doctor...

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for posting the query.

After going through the description and understanding your problem, I do feel your antibiotic course was not completely effective in combating the infection.

I would suggest you to get back to your doctor and get re-examined. You may require X-ray of the sinuses as well as the chest.

Also, you would require a mucolytic to thin out the thick secretions and steroid nebulisation to reduce bronchial inflammation.

Meanwhile, follow some home remedies such as steam inhalation and drinking plenty of warm water; avoid coffee, chilled food/beverages, smoking and alcohol if any.

Hope I have answered your query; I'll be available for the follow up queries.

thank you for your reply. I agree with you. I did have a chest x-ray last week and it was negative. If I am not feeling better by Monday I will call the doctor again. wondering if I should go back to the ENT doctor or the pulmonolgist?

Consult an apt ENT Specialist...

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for writing back

If your chest X-ray is normal, then it would be better to consult a good ENT specialist.

I wish you good luck and good health.
