Suggest Treatment For Bacterial Gastroenteritis

default
Posted on Tue, 30 Jun 2015
Question: I have been dealing with diagnosed bacterial gastroenteritis. Today I started having a "smelling salts" oder in my sinus when it's time to deficate again. I've been on metronidazole since Saturday (without much effect) as well as Lomotil (again without much effect). I'm waiting on stool samples for exact antibiotic needed. But in the meantime, this smelling salts effect is most puzzling. Any thoughts?

Brief Answer:
Side effect of metronidazole

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

Metallic taste in the mouth and altered sense of smell is a common side effect of metronidazole. Do not worry about it. Once you stop taking the antibiotic it will settle down in one or two days.
I usually give a combination of cipofloxacin and metronidazole for bacterial gastroenteritis, it works better than a single drug. I recommend that to you as well

I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me

Regards
