Question: Doctor,

I have been going through back pain for the past three plus years starting from the nape of the neck going down to the lower back. More intense along the spine and spreading to the sides. It was diagnosed by an orthopaedic as fibromyalgia an year ago. I had three months of physiotherapy sessions followed by that on medication for the past two months. Taking Vitamin D3, and calcium tablets based on the blood test which showed low Vitamin D3 level of 19. Even after the two months of medication I don't see any improvement. Pain intensifies in the evening or with any kind of strain however it eases out once I lie down for half an hour. Is there any permanent cure or remedy for pain management.

Brief Answer:
Can be postural pain.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The pain in the back that relieves on lying down is likely to be a posture related pain. This can be aggravated by low levels of calcium and D3. The first step is to ensure that you maintain an appropriate posture while working on the computer. Take frequent stretch breaks and drink lots of water. Discontinue using pillow while sleeping straight. Do not lift heavy objects, especially after bending down. Eat a healthy wholesome meal which should satisfy your minerals and proteins requirement.
Apply diclofenac gel on the affected area. Warm compresses will also help.
The most essential and long lasting remedy is exercises. There are certain back strengthening and neck isometric exercises that you must learn from a physiotherapist and perform them at home or work whenever possible. You can also undergo a weeks session of traction at your physiotherapist's clinic.

Last but not least, if its unbearable take medications or muscle relaxant prescribed by your physician. Do get your Vitamin D3 and calcium levels evaluated and get the dose of supplements adjusted as required.
I hope this answers your query.
