Question: My 82 year old mother insists that she is having music playing low in her home and it is the same song, we have placed a tape recorder and everything. She says it quits the minute she picks up her telephone or someone is there. I am trying to figure out which direction of doctors to take her to as she is very healthy otherwise and this started about two weeks ago.

Brief Answer:
She needs to see a psychiatrist

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query.
I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through.
The kind of symptom that you are describing is called auditory hallucination and it is a sign of mental ill health. Your should take her to a psychiatrist. She will need in-depth analysis along with some blood tests like Serum Electrolyte and Complete blood count etc. I have seen a couple of such patients and they have responded well to quetiapine.
Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
If not, you may close the discussion and if possible you may rate the answer for me, so that I get a good feedback.
