Question: Hi, my mother is 74 years old. She is in the hospital with lupus, aspiration pneumonia, high blood pressure, c def, and an infection. Her blood pressure is currently 88/66 and her temperature is 87. Her body is failing to absorb the nutrients from the feeding tube so she is retaining fluids. What can be done about her aspiration pneumonia and lack of nutrient absorption?

Hello dear. I have gone through the details.

So all her condition can be explained on the basis of infection and thus intensive support in an ICU setting is desirable. Tube feeding is the best form of nutrition and must be continued unless there is a bowel obstruction. In that case, parenteral nutrition for a short period of time can be given.

She requires high-end antibiotics for aspiration pneumonia and inotropic support for blood pressure too. This all can lead to improvement in her status.
