I can understand your situation and your concern for your husband.

To treat severe anxiety benzodiazepine group of drugs (clonazepam, lorazepam,alprazolam) are quite helpful.

If I were his treating doctor I would like to give low dose clonazepam(klonopin) in day time and more dose at night for good sleep.This is for acute and urgent management.Later on dose should be decreased. This is prescription medicine and you need to have legal written prescription for the same of your local doctor.

For a wile you can use xanax if you have.Let me know in what dose he is taking zoloft and xanax.

I would also like to add Mirtazapine in his drugs if zoloft is given in sufficient dose and for sufficient duration.It is good antidepressant with some sedation.

If he has not eaten(even no liquids) anything since 3 days and not ready to it yet also, please take him to hospital.He may need intravenous fluids. He may suffer from hypogycemia(low glucose), hypotension(low blood pressure) and electrolyte imbalance. If he is ready to eat give some liquid(fruit juices) and some semi solid food to start with.

He can be given xanax 0.5 mg in noon and 0.5 mg more at night in addition to current dose for a day or two.
Dose of zoloft should be increased to 50 mg. Optimum dose is 100-200 mg. Zoloft can also help in sleep. So add more 25 mg at night to current dose.
Inform his doctor about the same as soon as possible.

In my opinion xanax should be replaced with clonazepam as it is more long acting and with less abuse potential.
