Question: I am concerned about my 7yr old nephew. He's had behavioral issue for quite some time now and his parents have been sending him to behavior doctors for a couple years now. He has never seen a neurologist, which I have recommended for awhile now since the behavioral doctors are unable to give him a proper diagnosis. They have ruled out Autism, ADHD, ect. At this point they are stating he as anxiety issues and put him on Zolof. His symptoms include, outburst in behavior, sensory disorder, hates loud noises, slow development in learning (they say he has the mentality of a 4yr old). For appoximently 6 months he does this thing with his mouth. He opens his mouth in the middle of a sentence continuously while he is telling you something. It doesn't happen every time. He's really into dinosaur's so we just thought he was "growling". Its almost like he is having jaw spasms'. Yesterday I was watching him and while telling me a story and doing the jaw thing, the pupil's of his eyes dilated back and forth 3 times in a row. It scared me! His parents are just recently divorced and his care has been pricey and I really want him to have a CT of his brain and determine if it could be a neurological disorder instead of a behavioral disorder. Any idea's would be appreciated!

Thank you for your input. Do you think he could possibly be having seizers? Can your eyes dilate back and forth like that when having one? He was in mid conversation when it happened. I've never seen that happen before unless eyes are stimulated by light. Wilson's disease is ruled out in my eyes due to the symptoms not matching up but Epilepsy caused by him hitting his head as a toddler, could be. He did fall off a bike and hit his head really hard. Unfortunately his father didn't feel it was necessary to have him checked out when it happen. I will let my sister-in-law know and have her follow up with a neurologist. I would of thought since they couldn't diagnosis him with a behavioral problem besides "anxiety" the physicians would have recommended him seeing one by now. I just feel that so many children have behavioral problems now days, that something could be more seriously wrong and its getting over looked.
