Brief Answer:
GERD is the problem. Anxiety precipitates it.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone very carefully through your query. Your problem seems to be due to gastritis or gastroesophageal reflux. Our gastrointestinal tract has a forward propulsive movement (peristalsis) that moves the food material forward as it is digested, absorbed and finally expelled as feces. If somehow this movement gets hampered, food along with the digestive juices would stagnate, stomach acid will reflux into the food pipe and on the other hand the bowel habits would not be proper. Anxiety is a direct contributor. Degradation of undigested food in the intestines by the intestinal bacteria would lead to the excess gas formation.

Prior to answering which product of Nutrilite would be suitable for you, I need to know why exactly you wish to take it. Please note that the clinical benefits of such products are not established.

In order to relieve yourself, you need to do the following:
* Avoid spicy food. Take small but frequent meals. Avoid long gaps between meals.
* Avoid alcohol intake (if it a part of your habit).
* Take Prilosec (omeprazole) once daily before breakfast.
* Take plenty of green leafy vegetables as well as other sources of dietary fibers. Take fiber supplements like isabgol/psyllium husk or senna. I would insist you to increase your dietary fiber intake.
* Regular morning walk and exercise to keep the bowel movements proper.
* If I had a patient like you I would perhaps have suggested Prodep (fluoxetine) 20 mg tablet (long term anxiolytic and a prescription drug) once daily for at least 2 months (it may take time for the action to set in). Discuss about this with your treating physician.
* Take curd or yogurt on daily basis. It contains beneficial bacteria and should help.
* Stress reduction has a very important role to play. Yoga and meditation should help.

Hopefully that should help.

Let me know if I could help further.

I am in particular troubled by anxiety ( ghabrahat). Is anxiety also due to GERD? I am troubled by anxiety (ghabrahat) so much so that i am forced to take anti anxiety medicine (Rivotril 0.25mg). Even a small trigger induces good amount of anxiety in me.This is a recent problem just 3-4 months old, earlier it was not there at all.Anxiety is most of the time accompanied by heavy belching and pinching pain in chest, which is momentary pain and not regular.Recently, i had taken some steroids for cervical spondolysis problem, have i developed anxiety (ghabrahat) due to these medicines, i mean have i developed some mental problem due to these steroids or anxiety is due to acidity and gas?

Brief Answer:
Anxiety control is essential

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. The GERD does not cause anxiety. It is the other way round. Anxiety causes GERD. Rivotril is a good medicine but I would insist on Prodep (fluoxetine). Discuss with your doctor.

The steroids, anxiety or 'gas' will not lead to mental health related issues. However, the anxiety needs to be taken care of.

What are the causative agents of anxiety ( ghabrahat) and what is its treatment so that it can be fully cured? Is prodep also an SOS medicine or it treats anxiety from its roots and cures it fully?

Answered by Dr. Prof. Kunal Saha (16 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
It is a long term anxiolytic

Detailed Answer:
Prodep (fluoxetine) 20 mg tablet is along term anxiolytic and a prescription drug. It is not a SOS drug. It needs to be taken once daily for at least 2 months (it may take time for the action to set in). Discuss about this with your treating physician.

The cause of anxiety is the reduced capacity to deal efficiently with stress.
