Brief Answer:
Yes both could be the cause.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, welcome to HCM, Yes both could be the cause. You seem to have IBS with diarrhea alternating with constipation.

This is from my book---
Irritable bowel syndrome can present with abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea or sometimes, alternating periods of constipation and diarrhoea, with bloating.

This is what you can do---
You may be able to reduce diarrhoea if you limit or eliminate the following foods and beverages that can cause diarrhea--Alcohol, coffee, cola drinks, and chocolate.

Also eliminate the following---
Nicotine, from smoking or chewing tobacco
Gas-producing foods, such as beans, cabbage, cauliflower, peanuts.
Dairy products that contain lactose (milk sugar), such as ice cream, milk, cheese, and sour cream
Foods and drinks high in sugar, especially fruit juice, soda, candy, and other
packaged cookies.

Foods high in fat, including red meat, egg-yolk, butter, oils, and anything deep-fried,
Sorbitol and xylitol, artificial sweeteners found in some sugarless candies and
chewing gum

You may try eliminating these foods or beverages one at a time to see whether symptoms improve. Also, keep a daily record of what you eat and whether you experience problems after eating a particular food item.

Eat slowly, chew your food thoroughly and have meals in a quiet relaxing environment. Try not to swallow air, which can cause bloating.

It is also important to drink 6 to 8 glasses of water daily, water will keep stools soft.

Regular, gentle exercise such as walking, cycling, or swimming helps maintain bowel regularity.
Try to maintain a pleasant environment when you eat. This may reduce stress that can precipitate symptoms.

Keep medications to a minimum
