Posted on Tue, 15 Jul 2014
Question: I have picked up some kind of a rash. Started Thursday on the inside of my elbow and a small irritation on my neck. I noticed it but I could cover it with my clothes, so no problem. Went to work, did business, no issues.
Came home, went to bed, got up Friday am the rash was halfway around my neck, I had scratched myself and the rash had spread to my crotch and anus. My scrotum had swollen up the size of a grapefruit. Later Friday the rash had completely circumvented my neck.
Have been applying topical extra strength Benedryl.
Went to bed Friday, woke up this morning and the swelling of my scrotum has gone down very slightly. Rash have cirvumvented my neck and in up on my face (primarily because I wear glasses and am always putting my hands up at my nose. Upper lip and nose are swollen.
Tried to see a physician this morning but short of ER there were none open that I could find. I do not have a primary care physician.
I am 59, and am on heart, blood pressure and cholesterol meds. I am 5' 7', 232 lbs.

Brief Answer:
Try to take Over the counter antihistamines

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

It looks like a generalized allergic reaction. You should take over the counter available antihistamines like Claritin / Fexofenadine preparations at the local pharmacy. The Benadryl would not work as effective.

You should apply Lactocalamine preparation on the neck and scrotum for relief.

These things help till you see a PCP / ER. Sometimes waiting would not affect your life.
