Posted on Tue, 17 Mar 2015
Question: My child is 10 years old. He has Alergic Bronchitis problem since long. Recently he is coughing a lot at night. Doctors advised to Broncotex Syrup 5 ml thrice a day, Tab Azithral 250 mg one daily for 5 days and Tab Romilast B5 anti alergic one at night for 20 days. He has a chronic cough in the chest. The medicines has solved the problem to an extend but not fully. At night he is not able to sleep well due to coughing. I started giving him nebulizer ( Asthalin 5 ml) at night since yesterday. He feels much better with Nebulizer. Please advise long term solution for this problem.

Brief Answer:
Medicines are proper. Just continue them for long term relief.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through the problem. Allergic bronchitis has an allergic component to common substances like dust and certain viruses generally play a role in triggering it. Generally it subsides with time but it is hard to predict when that would happen. The medicines that you are giving, are proper. Basically you may need to continue Romilast B5 on long term basis. That has a stabilizing action on mast cells which mediate the allergic reactions. Nebulization need not always be given with Asthalin. Use Asthalin only if you feel that there is a component of bronchospasm which is manifested with a wheeze. If it does not seem to be present, nebulization with normal saline 2ml would help in diluting the cough and would provide relief. It will also have a beneficial effect if given on long term basis.

Hope that helps.
