Suggest Treatment For Alcohol Induced Gastritis

Posted on Mon, 12 Oct 2015
Question: my friend had alcohol for the first time last night and threw it all back up and today she is not holding down any food. Slept only two hours and any drink or food given she throws it up. I am about to give her some dehydration sachets and hopefully that will help. I have some nausetil (prochloroperazine) tablets at home I use for my migraine with nausea. Can I give one to her just to settle down the vomiting?

Hello

Thank you for the query. Welcome to HCM
I understand your concern

Well likely she has developed alcohol induced gastritis.
Well very important to ensure adequate fluid intake in any form to avoid dehydration.
Also can give her an antacid like pantoprazole 40 mg twice a day along with domperidone 10 mg thrice a day to prevent vomiting.
Can give her the tablet you have if vomiting still persists.
Also if she has pain in tummy, severe vomiting or vomiting of blood or reduced urine output then need to get her to hospital or doctor urgently.
Also avoid alcohol in near future.

Hope this answers your query.
Wish her a speedy recovery.
Happy to help.
