Brief Answer:
This is lik a habit disorder

Detailed Answer:
Hi....this is like a habit disorder. You are right in suggesting that this sort of habit can stay for long. But as she is too young to understand what you say. She might not be able to comply with your request or order. But as age progresses she will definitely understand and try to come out of the habit.

The other option you have is dentonium benzoate. This is a very bitter compound and is available as application on the hand or thumb for thumb sucking habit children. The same thing you can use on her lips also. Do not use Neem paste as it can result in seizures sometimes because it has got an alkaloid called Nambidin in Neem paste.

hello Doctor,

where will I get Dentonium benzoate? any medical store??
Is there any ayurvedic or homeopathic treatment that I should do here?

I am extremely tensed by this habit of hers as it will lead to dental problems and the lips also might get thick which will affect her looks later on.
Plus she is doing it very often and hence is left out from lot of activities.
She mostly does it when she wants to concentrate or just be all by herself.

She had started this about a year back when we had gone for a trip of 5days and had left her back with the family. Is it because of loneliness that she started the habit?
or some insecurity?

Please tel me some behavioural remedies too.
sometimes i notice that the more I remind her, the more she does it!

Brief Answer:
Denatonium is available in trade names such as Bitrex or Aversion

Detailed Answer:
Hi...Denatonium Benzoate is available in trade names such as Bitrex or Aversion.

Lip licking is a common habit in toddlers when they want to moisten their dry lips. It takes place when the child is under mental pressure like stress. Lip sucking is done by the child without him being aware of it.

Do not make her conscious of the chewing habit. Instead apply some balm or cream over the affected area twice a day or as I have suggested use Denatonium (This is a prescription drug and you will need one for it and it is available in all leading medical stores). If you keep telling constantly she might develop undue interest and continue the habit. Make her understand by your facial expression rather than words that you are unhappy when she does that. Divert the attention of the child to other activities which may change the habit.Praise her when she is not sucking the lips.

I do not know about ayrvedic or homeopathic treatement for this - But I can suggest you a very nice and understanding alternative medicine specialist on this platform of health care magic. You can consult him with a direct query. He is Dr. Senthilnathan (Alternative medicine specialist).

Hope this is helpful for you and if you have any further queries I will be glad to help.

I wish your kid a speedy recovery from the habit. If you need any future medical consultation and suggestions, I will be glad to help. You can approach me at the following link. Please find the link below -

Thank you doctor!
I did buy denotonium benzoate in a form which relieves kids from thiumb sucking and nail biting habits.I tasted it and it really tasted absolutely bitter. Plus the taste remains for long. I applied the same to my daughter feeling happy that finally I shall get rid of this habit. I applied her some in the portion between the lower lip and the chin as that is the portions she sucks. But to my despair, she puked. she puked so badly that the entire lunch was out on my bed. Since then.. I haven't dared to apply that medicine to her!

Do you think I should visit a child psychologist to understand her behavioural pattern and body language so that I can deal with this problem in a better way in case the medicines are not going to be of any help?
Do you know anything about sleep talk? Does it help?
Can you elaborate or suggest someone who has knowledge and experience on it?

Also.. u mentioned Dr Senthilnathan (Alternative medicine specialist).
how can i find him and ask him the question?
when i logged in and had to type my question, I was just asked category of prob and the health care doctor. I wasn't given a choice to take from a particular list.

Brief Answer:
Certainly visit a child psychologist - but denatonium will help

Detailed Answer:
Hi....I understand your concern.

1. I suggest you visit a child psychologist. But before that give some time for denatonium to work and show result.

2. Sleep talking and hypnosis will not work at this age group. I don't know anybody who does that.

3. To seek Doctor Senthilnathan, you need to opt for a direct query to him by selecting him in alternative medicine specialists. I have suggested him to another patient like this on this website and they came in touch with him and the patient had again gotten back saying that they were very happy with Dr. Senthilnathan's suggestions.

Alright! Just tel me when to use dentonium ? Is it that I applied to her after food and which is why she puked because of the bitter taste?
what is the best time to apply??
and she is lil stubborn child which is why she keeps licking it to show me her discomfort.
I shall try that for two three days.

also , she has a lot of chipped nails. what defiency could it be and what should i give her?
I give her Orofer XT and A to Z syrup everyday.
That was prescribed to her because of patchy skin, itchy scalp and chipped nails

Brief Answer:
Puking may be due bitter taste - apply after food

Detailed Answer:
Hi...

1. Apply after food...so that she will not vomit.

2. Patchy skin and chipped nails could be due to iron deficiency. OroferXT is iron supplement and AtoZ Syrup is multivitamin.
