Question: Hi,
I am 34 years old male was diagnosed with acute pulmonary thrombosis. Thrombus has acquired complete main artery and both left and right side. color Doppler shows a thrombus in calf vain. PA is enlarged to 3.8 cm and mild right ventricular dysfunction is reported. After a stay of 5 days in hospital now i am on acitrom (2mg) along with vitamin e(cord liver oil), b12 and c supplements. BP is around 135/83 with heart rate around 90-100 bpm. My doctor says nothing to worry it will get dissolved itself. I do not feel any short breathless but only slight shooting pain on right side 2-3 times a week. Can you please let me know how good my chances to recover are and how long would it take to completely resolve the thrombus? Anything other than bleeding risk, i must be aware of please suggest?

Brief Answer:
It will take at least 5-6 months for resolution.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
You are having Pulmonary thromboembolism due to DVT (deep venous thrombosis).
And treatment is oral anticoagulant for atleast 6-8 months.
Usual dissolution of clots is seen after 2-3 months.
So get done repeat CT Pulmonary Angiography after 6 months.
Other than bleeding, you should avoid hot and spicy food as these drugs are known to cause gastritis.
Severe chest pain, not relieved by painkiller, worsening with breathing is suggestive of Pulmonary infarction. So if you have these symptoms than immediately consult your doctor.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health. Thanks.

Thank you Dr. Bhavsar for your reply.

My chest pain settled down automatically in a couple of hours without any painkiller. It may be due to YOGA i stared recently and now i have stopped which improves in chest pain. one last thing, i have intermittent dry cough 1 or 2 times a week. Earlier it was really bad and consistent, now settle down gradually but not completely. Is it ok? Cough happens more when i go outdoor(pollution). Please suggest.
