Suggest Treatment For Acute Gastritis And Weight Loss
Question: Hi ,
This is for my husband.
He has been suffering from acute gastritis symptoms and weightloss since past one year. Have consulted gastroentrologist and done most of diagonostic procedures like endoscopy, colonoscopy, capsule endoscopy etc none of which revealed any issues. So far only issue reported is variation in thyroid levels, for which he is under treatment with an endocrinologist from November 2015 onwards. Have consulted rheumatologist also as one of the blood work reported positive ANA ; which later on turned to be negative at a later blood work. And no other rheumatological symptoms or issues reported in blood tests.
He still suffers from acute gastritis attacks frequently with severe pain on chest , sides of upper body , upper back etc. chest Xrays were also taken which also did not reported any issues.
Dr could you please suggest what next to do further. We are really worried if there could be any other underlying issues since weight loss is still there though reduced, along with acute gas attacks.

1) The symptoms mentioned by you does not fit into acute gastritis. Acute gastritis cause upper abdominal lower/middle chest burning type pain, reflux, nausea, bloating.
2) Symptoms mentioned by you are chest pain, upper body pain, upper back pain.
3) He does not have any symptoms related to breathing thus chest x-ray did not reveal any abnormality related to lungs.
4) Presence of such symptoms along with weight loss warrants detailed evaluation to reach the diagnosis as it would help to start appropriate treatment.
5) Even though not directly related to his symptoms but still I would suggest to do USG abdomen (special emphasis on pancreas and surrounding region) and CT scan of chest (after consulting chest-physician).
6) Along with this evaluation he can continue medication to relieve from symptoms also as it would help to improve his quality of life (with increasing symptom-free period).
7) If you have done my suggested report already, I would like that you upload reports of all investigation related to abdomen.
