Posted on Thu, 26 Jun 2014
Question: my pumanologist has me taking 30mg of prevacid 7am and 30mg at 7pm because he says he thinks after my last ct scan last week that I am aspirating acid into my lungs. I am still having problems with the acid reflux so my regular medical doctor told me to add ranitidine at night but she didn't say how long to wait to take ranitidine after I take my 7pm dose of prevacid, and she didn't say what strength of ranitidine to take and is there anything safer with less possible side effects I could take with the 60mg of prevacid . I took one dose of sucralfate today and it only last for 1 hour if you take it like the bottle says 4 times a day does it work better or is it only going to last for 1 hour if so not worth taking. what do you think is the best thing for me to take for the acid reflux gerd the knowing feeling in stomach and burning and it goes all the way through into my back and sometimes it gets bad in my esopheus and it gets hard to breath and my heart starts pounding do I take the ranitidine what strength or try something else

Brief Answer:
Needs time to see improvement...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.

I advise to take:
- ranitidine at bedtime
- take antacids (magnesium and aluminium hydroxide) to improve the symptoms
- domperidone to improve intestinal movement

It is also very important to watch your diet, be careful with foods/drinks you consume:
- avoid alcohol/smoking
- avoid fried/fatty/spicy/chilly foods
- avoid carbonated drinks
- avoid too hot or too cold foods/drinks
- eat often and small portions
- drink more water

Please bare in mind that it will take at least 4 weeks until real improvement will be seen.

Hope it helped! Wish fast recovery! Let me know if you have further queries!
