Suggest Treatment For Abscess In Skin

default
Posted on Thu, 18 Feb 2016
Question: Hi doctor,
I have a problem since last 2 years. I usually get a lump under my skin, a painful one, and after using hot water treatment pus will come out. I went to many doctors and they always give me anti biotic. This happens after every month or two. I did blood test too and everything was fine. Is there any problem with my blood or there is any other condition?
P. S. Earlier it was anywhere on the body, but now a days it comes generally on lower part of body.

Brief Answer:
abscess should be incised, may need prolonged antibiotic course

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The collection of pus is an abscess. Though antibiotics are very important in the treatment of an abscess, the definitive treatment is incision and drainage even if it has discharged.

The reason that the area should be incised (just a small incision) and drained , is to prevent recollection and a second infection occurring.
Pockets of pus may remain that cause a new infection to occur.

This may be one of the reasons that you keep having recurrences.

In addition, some persons have bacteria colonization, meaning they may have a high levels of a particular bacteria present.
This can be identified by swabs of the skin and may sometimes require a prolonged course of antibiotics.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
