Question: I took Escapelle (emergency contraceptive pills) at 1230hrs on 12/04/2015 and I had unprotected intercourse on the same day around 2000hrs. Does Escapelle still works or do I need to take the pills again? Thanks in advance for your reply!

Brief Answer:
No, you took the pill in time

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

No , one pill is all you need. You took the pill in time. Remember, the sooner the better. If the pill is delayed for more than 24 hours then protection rates fall by 10 percent so its better to take the pill as soon as possible.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks

So this means that eventhough I had intercourse again after taking the pills it's fine as the pills is still working in that period of time?

Brief Answer:
No, ECP gives up to 12 hours of protection

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,

Emergency contraceptive pills can give protection up to 12 hours after they are taken hence as your subsequent intercourse was within 12 hours of taking the escapelle, then there is no need to take the 2nd pill.

If there is abnormal vaginal bleeding or she does not get her periods within 10 days of the expected dates then you should get a pregnancy test done and consult your doctor/gynecologist for further evaluation and assistance.
