Suggest Treatment For Abdominal Pain

default
Posted on Mon, 20 Oct 2014
Question: I have had abdominal pain, now it's less but not gone, for 9 months. I stated hair loss treatment at that time. The main application has been minoxidil. I did discontinue the process for 1 month, but no abdominal change. Could there be any way the hair treatment is related to the abdominal pain. By the way, I have had every scan and numerous blood exams that showed nothing acute. I have developed anxiety because of this process.

Brief Answer:
Treat abdominal pain, Minoxidil, Peptide solution

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for posting on HCM.
I appreciate your concern regarding hair fall. Hair fall is usually ascribed to multiple factors like diet and nutrition, hormones, stress, acute or chronic medical conditions, drugs, cosmetic products etc.
From your description, it seems you might be having Telogen Effluvium, which is hairfall secondary to stress. Stress in your case can be related your chronic abdominal pain. Thus proper diagnosis and treatment of your abdominal pain is a must for improving hair fall.
If I were your dermatologist/trichologist, i would like to take through history including family history, history of recent major trauma/illness/stress/medications etc and recommend some basic investigations like CBC,blood sugar,Thyroid function test. Some other special investigations like trichogram and dermoscopy and further aid in diagnosis and prognosis.
I would suggest you a course of oral tablets containing biotin and other essential vitamins and minerals for minimum 3-4 months.
Also, I would like you to resume use of minoxidil 5% solution once a day.
Additionally add a hair serum containing peptides for hair growth at night.(Neoptide, Q sera etc).
I would advise use of gentle shampoo and conditioner on regular basis and use of coconut oil twice a week.
Also enquire from your dermatologist about upcoming treatment options like mesotherapy and platelet-rich plasma.
Avoid combing in wet hair and let them dry by wrapping in towel. Avoid blow dryers and hair-color/dyes. Take plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet and try to de-stress your routine life.
Hope your queries are resolved and wish you best of health.
Thank you

Dr XXXXXXX thank you. I have a very good primary doctor and a very good Gastrenologist who have been treating my abdominal pain. I have had CBC blood test, glucose, thyroid and it seems, every other blood exam possible. They and many other doctors feel my symptoms are stress related, but since my abdominal pain actually began at the time I started my hair treatment at The Hair Club, I thought there was a possibility I could be allergic to something in the treatment. I know an allergy reaction would probably show as a rash or something external, but I would like to rule out any connection with my abdominal pain and hair treatment. Do you see any possible connection?

Hello again,
Since you are saying that your doctors have not been able to find any objective cause for your abdominal pain and there is no organic problem, it seems very likely the anxiety and stress due to this abdominal pain can trigger hair fall i.e telogen effluvium.
Thanks

Dr XXXXXXX I was asking you if my hair treatment, which includes Minoxidil and other products could have caused my abdominal problems, by way of an allergic reaction, since my abdominal pain started around the same time I started my hair treatments. This was 10 months ago.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
As per my knowledge and experience,I dont think topical minoxidil or any hair treatment can be cause of your abdominal pain.
If you are prescribed any oral tablets for hair growth like biotin rich multivitamins then its intake might cause some gastritis or abdominal upset. Otherwise I dont think any topical medications could be reason for your abdominal pain.
Moreover as you said allergic reactions are usually acute and mosty associated with acute skin rash and other symptoms. Thus i dont think there is possibiltiy of any allergic reaction.
Therefore, I would suggest you to omit any oral supplements for hair growth, if you taking any.
I hope you get well soon.
Thanks
