default
Posted on Wed, 14 May 2014
Question: Hello Sir,
My B12 count in the blood report are 180 pg/ml (normal reads as 187 to 873) and VID 25OH (commonly known as D3) counts are 9.6 ng/ml (normal reads as 8.0 to 160.0) . I am a pure vegetarian. These are from the blood report dated 18.03.2014. From the last 1 month my doctor has given me 2 vitcofol-c injections, a 6 lakh unit injection for D3 (the name starts wit 'A') and a daily dose of newbona active for D3. But I started feeling uneasy again from last 5 days. And recently I have been injected with ME-12 (Mecobalamin) one injection, but I didn't feel that re-leaved as compared to vitcofol-c. Kindly advice the dosage for eldervit/vitcofol-c injections and medicines for D3 as I am facing a bit of headache, faster heart pumping, retention and memory loss problem and I have a very important exam next month.

Brief Answer:
Single dose of Intramuscular Vitamin B12

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

Dear Mr XXXXX

Its quite common to see Vitamin B12 deficiency in vegetarian as the predominant source of Vitamin B12 is non vegetarian food.

Single dose of Vitamin B12 injection is all that is required. Later oral dose of Vitamin B12 can be initiated.
Following is my protocol of management of Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D deficieny
1. Single dose of Vitcofol, followed by oral Vitamin B12 and folic acid
2. I do not prefer injectable Vitamin D: They are painful, large doses given may cause headache, sleep disturbance. So i normally advise Tab Shelcal D 500 once a day for 1 month and dietary source of Calcium like milk and milk products. Also early morning exposure to sun is beneficial in natural synthesis of Vitamin D in body.

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Take Care
