Question: I am 26 weeks pregnant.I had uti with 20-25 pus cells in urine and was prescribed with phexin 500.

And now the infection is reduced to 10-12 puscells and i am prescribed with zocef 250. Can i take different brand antibiotics will it be safe for the baby

In my opinion both the drugs phexin and zocef are cephalosporin group drugs.
They belong to category B and they have demonstrated no risk to fetus in lot of animal studies.
So these medicines can be taken during pregnancy and they also have good broad spectrum and widely used against many organisms.
U would like to know whether you have done any urine culture and sensitivity test.Because use of antibiotics basing in culture and sensitivity is important in pregnant women.
I suggest you to take good amount of water upto 3 -4 litres,cranberry juice and coconut water for better results in curing the infection.
And also check for GTT(Glucose Tolerance Test) to rule out any diabetes.

Urine culture was taken and i was told the result is normal.and gtt was also taken and my sugar was at the border level, and was told it is not a issue.
