Suggest Treatment For UTI While On Macrodantin

Question: Just diagnosed with citrobacter koseri uti. Taking 100mg. Macrodantin 2x per day since wed. Night. This was prescribed by my internist. Culture came back today. Do you agree with the med. prescribed and dosage? Thank you. I'm also 63 and and practice excellent hygiene and drink 4-6 bottles of water each day. Thanks again, XXXXXXX

Nitrofurantoin (macrodantin) is a very good drug for non complicated UTI. It is concentrated in the urine and bit on other parts of the body making the side effects lesser as compared to other antibiotics.

Studies have shown that Nitrofurantoin is very good for citrobacter sp.

Do you have a copy of the culture report ? If yes, can you please upload the result here at the report section so that I may also review it ?

For adult healthy patients, the usual dosage of Nitrofurantoin is 100mg every 6 hours (4x a day). You should ask your internist about this and if he/she can make proper adjustments.
