Question: I was recently diagnosed with a UTI, the infection did not manifest in the usual way. My question is: how long can a woman at the age of 63 carry an infection in her body before it takes her down. I have been suffering debilitating fatigue for a the past year, it has always been marked up as depression. I have had not energy or strength, I barely able to put in my eight hours of work.
This has gone on for a year, finally last week I ended up in the ER with symptoms of a heart attack, bottom line it was a very bad UTI. Is it possible that I've had this infection for the past year?

Brief Answer:
Yes could have been there months before.

Detailed Answer:
Good Day and thank you for being with Healthcare Magic!

Yes you may have been harboring the UTI for several months now and had slowly creeped in until your immune system weakened gradually.

For the elderly population, diseases doesn't manifest typically as in adults and would usually present as weakess and other constitutional general symptoms.

Drink plenty of fluids to clear your current infection and to prevent UTIs in the future. Other risk factors that you may have are incomplete emptying of the bladder, incontinence, or organ prolapse. This should be checked and treated accordingly.
