Question: Hi.. My 7 month old baby girl has viral fever and is under paracetamol medication.. I got her urine routine test done which shows 20-40 WBC/HPF and positive "leucocyte esterase". Does that mean she has UTI or it could be because she already has a viral infection?

Brief Answer:
The report suggests that she has UTI

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to the HCM

The reports suggest UTI as the reason for her fever. Don't worry. It can be treated by following measures:

1. Go for her urine culture and sensitivity test and ultrasound abdomen.Ensure that the sample is collected properly.
2. Start her on antibiotics such as cefixime, coamoxiclav or cephalexine for 7-10 days.
3. Give her regular feeds and oral fluids.

Also, go for a MCU ( micturating customers urethrography) after 2-3 weeks and a DMSA scintigraphy after 2-3 months to check for reasons of UTI and condition of kidneys and urinary tract.

Hopefully this will help you. I would be happy to help you in any further questions.
