Suggest Treatment For Raynaud's Disease, Fibromyalgia And Depression

Question: I recently had lab test results that showed my PTH level at 3.5, as well as insufficient vitamin D – 20.4. I’ve never had any surgeries to my throat or thyroids. My family Dr does not seem concerned at all. I’ve had many of the symptoms listed for hypoparathyroidism (stumbled across on web searches) and just a couple months ago was told I have cataracts at age 53. Do these findings indicate a diagnosis of hypoparathyroidism?

I should have added that I've had a range of symptoms for years that change in intensity depending on how tired or sick I am:

prolonged cramp like spasms in the hands and fingers

tingling sensations in lips, fingers, and feet

muscle aches or cramps

fibromyalgia

reynauds syndrome

dry skin

extreme fatigue

depression and anxiety

Brief Answer:
Hypoparathyroidism should be considered.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.

In my opinion, in your case diagnosis of Hypoparathyroidism should be considered and evaluated further, because this condition may explain most of symptoms you're experiencing.

Besides throat and thyroid surgery, causes of Hypoparathyroidism include autoimmune diseases and low magnesium blood levels.

So, I think you should discuss with your treating Doctor this diagnosis too.

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Thank you. I do know when my symptoms first started many years ago lab tests did show at that time magnesium was low, but these PTH and 25-OH Vitamin D tests have never been done before. Maybe there is s simple way to control my symptoms after all. Between the condition above and Vitamin D insufficiency many of my symptoms are explained.

The serum protein levels also had a summary that stated "faint oligoclonal pattern is just discernible in gamma region, but no discrete band". What might that indicate? It's awhile before I get back to see the Dr who ordered the tests.

Brief Answer:
Gamma discrete low may relate to autoimmune source

Detailed Answer:
Hi again.
Problems found in electrophoresis of proteins at gamma region may be related to autoimmune diseases.

So this possibility should be considered and discussed with your Doctor.

Low magnesium is a strong indication in favor to Hypoparathyroidism.

Hope this helps.
Wishing you good health.
