Suggest Treatment For PTSD And Anxiety

Posted on Mon, 26 May 2014
Question: A therapist who once diagnosed me with PTSD has died, but now at work I am being required to attend an active shooter training session which is freaking me out. I have until July 29 to get a doctor to give me an excuse to get out of it, but even the thought of going through that seems too much. I especially resent having to spend my money to re-prove this condition, and I really don't want to go through the trauma of talking about all of it again. I really need some advice about how to handle this situation.

Brief Answer:
You can take antidepressant and benzodiazepine

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I, Dr Abhishek Kapoor, would help you in this query.

I understand your concerns about attending shooting training sessions. I presume it's part of your professional training. If it is, then I would suggest you to get over PTSD, instead of finding ways / excuses now and in future.

If you agree with me, then you should try some antidepressant like paroxetine with low dose benzodiazepine. That would help you to control anxiety symptoms. You can also try relaxation exercise like JPMR or deep breathing. You should consult a psychiatrist for proper diagnosis and management as these medications are not available over the counter. For relaxation exercise and supportive therapy, you can consult a psychologist.

In case, you need further help, you can ask.

Sorry, I refuse to take drugs. I lost 2 years of my life being numbed by Zoloft.

Since I have PTSD from being in a school shooting, I hardly see how forcing me to go to a training on school shooting in which simulations of school shootings will occur is a benefit to me (or anyone). I doubt I can just "get over" PTSD when it is so directly related to this asinine thing I am being asked to do. Yes, I'd rather take a bullet than go through with this exercise.

I guess what you're saying is I really have no choice but to shell out major bucks to someone else to give me the diagnosis again or put myself through unnecessary anguish and probably go through a splitting episode and then be too sick to start back to school this fall. This is the same thing as asking a war veteran to "play war" for fun.

However, I can see asking this site for any advice was a mistake because you cannot possibly give advice on a situation you know nothing about, and this forum does not allow for much expansion on the subject. I guess I was hoping to hear that people with PTSD have some rights as employees. It is obviously cruel what I am being asked to do against my will. I was also raped on a daily basis for the first 14 years of my life--maybe they'll throw in some rape simulations, too and wreck me for several months.

Anyway, you've given your answer. Best of luck to you in your career.

Brief Answer:
Take psychologist help

Detailed Answer:
HI

Being a psychiatrist, i can understand your condition, but i can not change your past. If you want to stay in your past and keep thinking about it, then there would not be any solution. You have to come out of your past and in that case, only a therapist could help you. Psychologist would help you to come out of the traumatic memory of past and to make new memory. This is the only solution in your case. If you are thinking that medicine would look after everything, that's not possible. It should be your inner will to come out of your past and that would not be possible without your effort.

I just want to say, take help of a psychologist and in case, you need my help, i would be happy to help you.
