Suggest Treatment For PCOS

default
Posted on Sat, 12 Jul 2014
Question: I was recently detected PCOS through pelvic scan. Due to which I am overweight (5 feet , 72 kgs) & have acne. I had periods for 2 weeks (flow was low), the reason why I went to gynec. My periods are regular and hardly skip. As per my knowledge, the main sympton for PCOS is missing periods but in my case they are reguler. I have 2 kids (girl-6(2008) years ; Boy-2 years (2012)). Both were C sections & also got Tubectomy done(2012). My last period date is May 12 which stopped after 2 weeks after using tablets. Please let me know if you need any other details and also please provide information about the treatment, side effects. Thanks!

Brief Answer:
Glycomet will help

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The main problem with PCOS is infertility which is not a problem for you as you have already completed your family. The increase in bleeding is due to a hormonal imbalance that can be stopped with the help of hormonal pills. Since this has happened for the first time I would not advise you to start with the oral pills as they are associated with an increase in the body weight.
You first need to get your TSH levels evaluated as thyroid hormone disturbance can also cause an increase in bleeding. Taking medicines like Glycomet will help in correcting the hormonal imbalance. You can get it prescribed after consulting your gynecologist.
But most important is exercising to lose weight and becoming fit. If exercise is not done then the hormonal imbalance will still be there. Proper diet consisting of low carbohydrates, low fat diet with plenty of fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables is needed. Drink plenty of water. Do daily brisk walking for 40 minutes. Avoid junk food, pastries, colas. If you have PCOD you will also have diabetes later on so be very careful with your diet.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
