Question: Hi

I am 26 years married woman and diagnosed with PCOS and irregular periods since 2010. Since we want to have a baby now, so we consulted a doctor and she put me through metformin in septemeber 2014 which helped me to regularate my periods. But due to some side effects I stopped it in January 2015 and m periods again became irregular (I last had it on march 3, 2015). Now my question is should i start the same medicine to regularate my periods and try for baby? Also should I continue with this medicine while I am trying to conceive?

Brief Answer:
Continue metformin

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for your query.

I have read you query and I understand your concerns about metformin.

Following is my reply:

1) Metformin helps to regularise periods in women with PCOS to regularise periods.

2) This is by lowering insulin resistance.

3) You can continue same medicine as it will help you to regularise the periods and help in getting pregnant.

4) Meanwhile get your husband's semen anaysis done.

I hope I answered you query and addressed your concerns.

Let me know if you wish to ask any further questions. I will be glad to help you.

Regards,
Dr. Mahesh Koregol.

Brief Answer:
Take different tablets for withdrawal bleeding

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

It is difficult to say exactly the number of days you needed to have withdrawal periods after metformin.

Infact you can take Tab. Meprate 10mg twice a day for 5 days. You will get periods within one week of stopping meprate.
