Question: Name: XXXX

Age:23

Gender: Male

Duration: 5 months (started XXXXXXX 2016)

QUESTION : whats wrong with me mentally?

Sypmtoms I Encounter:
feeling detached from myself.. Which started after watching my phones Netflix for like many hours at one time.. Started feeling like was in another world or someone that i wasn't. So one night I was laying down on my inflatable air bed.. And all of a sudden it felt like I became a whole nother person.. I didn't feel like myself anymore.. Didn't feel like my own hands were mine.. It greatly scared me because I didn't ever go thru this type of thing before.. Then I know it was a major problem when I didn't feel like I knew my own parents that well anymore.. As if I were talking to strangers.. it causes great distress at times especially with the added unwanted thoughts of violence like OCD or Pure - O. Unwanted thoughts of hurting someone. It is difficult to even right that part.. Because I hate the thoughts even tho it sometimes try to make you think that the thoughts are mine or I'm bad or something.. I am a Christian.. And I hate the thoughts greatly!! I need help to rid myself of the obsessive thoughts and unwanted urges to act out of character. I've had the unwanted violent thoughts and urge feelings ever since 2011. (it started randomly and scared me greatly).. I don't even like writing the word violent because it's so far from my character as a person. And just the delusional thoughts also.. Where I can be in Walmart and not even enjoy myself because of self conscious thoughts that people are watching me or afraid of me when walking past them.. It's weird to describe.. Thas why I just say delusion.. And sometimes the detached feeling has been so long that I often question my reality.. To the point that I became really anxious and feelings of doom and gloom.. I am a musician, I play piano and I do a lot of music through the week.. And I stay up late a lot as well.. I don't talk about this to people because of fear of being looked as as mental or something.. I operate in daily life Fine.. Even though I be feeling detached and weird a lot.. I just want to get to the bottom of what's been going on in my HEAD.. I want my self back.. My life. My peace and certainty of MIND. I need help with the answers.. I'm normal.. I love people.. Funny and outgoing.. But I just be struggling with these strong anxious thoughts.. And the depersonalization makes me question whether I'm real.. Or my reality is real or not and sometimes feel like my own parents and close friends are strangers where it's hard to connect and be the real me like I used to because I don't feel like ME.. Detached feeling makes it hard.. And the unwanted thoughts.. I don't understand it..

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.

The symptoms you describe above are consistent with a potential diagnosis of obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). I do believe you can feel better with treatment. Treatment of this condition in your case would consist of a high dose SSRI antidepressant such as Lexapro uptitrated to 20mg daily. This would need to be combined with exposure-responsive-prevention psychotherapy (ERP). This combination treatment of an SSRI with psychotherapy is highly effective for OCD, and I strongly believe your symptoms would be improved by them.
You become whatever type of company you keep. So I recommend that you start hanging out with Christians or other groups with good social cause.
