Methicillin-resistant staphyclococcus aureus (MRSA) is a severe form of a staphylococcus infection that is not treated with antibiotics like Doxycycline mentioned in your history. Vancomycin , linezolid, tigecycline and daptomycin, are some of the newer agents used to treat MRSA with good results. MRSA can be community acquired or hospital acquired. Culture of the suspected infected site/organ , whenever possible, should be taken to confirm MRSA. It appears as clusters of rounded cocci under microscope.
