Suggest Treatment For GERD In A Hypertensive Person

Question: Hello, I am a 43 year old African-American female with a history of high blood pressure, reflux/GERD and pre-diabetes. For which I take Bisoprolol, Metformin and used to take Protonix and stopped taking it a year ago. I have been experiencing VERY frequent intense heart palpitations, that can be felt in my chest, a fluttering in my throat and a sense of throat heaviness, lethargy, lightheadedness and infrequent mild shortness of breath at times a mild, dry cough, facial flushing, moderate anxiety. I feel as though I'm having hundreds of palpitations/flutters per day, onset 5 days ago, usually noticeable while laying down and sitting upright. I don't get winded while walking, and seem to feel better when I walk and move around. I have been taking Bisoprolol 10/6.5 for approximately 2 years and the palpitations that I was having at the time I was prescribed stopped for the past year and have now resurfaced in the last few days. I have also been taking Mega Red krill oil one tablet daily and a multivitamin for about 2 months now. I also had a history of reflux/GERD and I tend to have some relief of the palpitations with a huge belch. I am not so much concerned about the GERD symptoms as much as I am with the increased fluttering and palpitations, which seem much more intense than before. Are the GERD symptoms and palpitations connected? I do not have any chest pain. My last labs/physical returned all normal ranges, BP 140/80, except for a vitamin D deficiency for which I take 2000 IUD per day.

Brief Answer:
Holter should be done,

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for choosing HealthcareMagic for your health query,

As per your query, no, most likely palpitations are not related to GERD.

Palpitation refers to any pathological or physiological problem with heart.

Although EKG was normal, few tests like 2D-echo, 24 hour Holter and treadmill tests can be done to rule out the cause of palpitations.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thanks. I did 2D-echo, cardiac treadmill stress and holter monitor in late 2014, both normal. Per some research I have done, there may be a connection to the palpitations with taking Krill oil? Is this possible? I started taking 300 mg per day approximately 2 months ago, along with vitamin D drops and a CVS brand skin, hair and nails vitamin all taken in the a.m. with my BP pill. Today, I only took my BP medication and hydrated really well with water and I felt better. Thoughts?

Brief Answer:
Follow up answer.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,
Krill oil contain essential fatty acids.Associating palpitations with EFA is over diagnosis.
Please don't read things from every site on google. If you want to read prefer only NCBI.
As per your question i don't think essential fatty acids are causing palpitations.Every thing is possible in medical science because every body is different and unique,And how it responds to something taken externally can never be predicted. However we can't go for rare of rarest possibilities every time.

If you feel there is a direct relation between Krill oil intake and palpitations in your case,Then stop taking it for few days and see the difference.
If palpitations stop then they are related to it.

Suggestion,
Repeat holter monitoring.
Please specify your anxiety levels?
How's you sleep cycle?
Any hidden or subconscious anxiety?
Smoking and alcohol habits?
Daily caffeine intake?

Please reply,
Waiting.
