Brief Answer:
COP need combination of treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, XXXX. COPD is Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary disease. And sputum production is cardinal symptom of COPD. If COPD is not well controlled or there is infection in lungs than the sputum production is increased. So I advice you to get done chest x ray and rule out infection.
Treatment for COPD is
1. Smoking cessation is the cornerstone of COPD management.
2. Enroll yourself in pulmonary rehabilitation center where chest physiotherapy is available.
3. Inhaled medicines Long Acting Beta 2 Aginist (LABA) with Inhaled CorticoSteroids (ICS) and Anticholinergic drugs are needed.
4. To prevent recurrent lung infection, adult respiratory vaccines like pneumococcal and influenzae are available. Vaccinate yourself with these.
I suggest you to consult Pulmonologist and discuss these things. At present you need chest x ray to rule out infection and Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) to stage (severity) of the disease. You may need antibiotics.
And yes, you can use vicks for nasal congestion.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
