Posted on Fri, 17 Jun 2016
Question: My mother is suffering from CKD. Her age is 64. Creatinine - 5.3 (earlier 6.3), Urea 80, Potassium 5.1, Hb 7.9, BP- 140/80, Weight 50 Kg, TSH - 0.5. Doctors had prescribed Epofit 4000 (8 injections) in April, Calcium tablet, Diuretic (Tide 10), Sleeping pill, one tablet for BP. Are these enough for a CKD patient? should not she receive any specific tablet for Kidney?

Brief answer....treatment is correct. Sadly there is no kidney specific medication available.
Detailed answer....
Hello,
Thanks for the query,
I have read your query and understand your concern.
Very frankly speaking there is no treatment for CKD.
Treatment is aimed to control the cause for the CKD. This cause in your mother seems to be high blood pressure. Other most important cause for CKD is diabetes.
Goal of treatment is to control sign and symptoms, reduce complications and slow down the progress of disease, but in spite of all that it gradually progresses to ESRD ( end stage renal disease ).
Treatment is aimed at....
Controlling blood pressure
Treating anaemia
Treating high cholesterol
Treating swelling
Protecting bones by giving calcium
Reducing your protein contents in diet.
The ultimate treatment is kidney transplant and nothing else.
Sadly speaking there is no particular tablet for the kidney itself.
I hope it helps, however you are most welcome to revert to me for any further query.
Best of luck
Thanks
