Suggest Treatment And Medication For Broken Back

default
Posted on Tue, 12 May 2015
Question: Thank you for taking my question and request Dr.
I have my third broken back at L-5-6. The pain is worse than when I had cancer. I am a survivor! However, I do not want to go back into the hospital. I say this at the risk of sounding negative. I live alone and am unable to sleep due to the pain. My MRI and CAT scan are to be done in a couple of weeks. I had to cancel as the break caused me to become incontinent. My surgery is a way out, couple of months. I take full responsibility for my surgery being a ways away as I am afraid of another operation on my back. How much cement can one spine take? I am requesting a prescription for Dilaudid as this is what I am given in the hospital and tolerate it well. I am not trying to get medication from you to get high or abuse. I don't even drink alcohol. I respect your decision either way as you are the expert. I am being sincere with you and appreciate your taking the time to read my letter and request.
Thank You, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Dilaudid is a habit forming medication

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case and I think that you should not delay this procedure. As you said that you have become incontinent after surgery, so if you get this procedure soon chances of your recovery is fast.
Dilaudid a strong pain killer and a narcotic drug with abuse chances. I can not prescribe this medicine as it is not allowed by this site.
I would recommend you some safe options.
1.Tramadol is a safe drug with less side effect.
2.Hot water fomentation and local application of volitran ointment is helpful.
3.Brufen or voveron tablet can be used.
4.Take calcium and vitamin D 3 daily. It will reduce fracture pain. Injection of zolendronic acid once in a year is also helpful in such pain.
I think you should not take Dilaudid as it has serious side effects. I hope this answer will be useful for you. Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
thanks
