Brief Answer: Haloperidol is a good option Detailed Answer: Hello Thanks for the add on information and sincere apologies for the delay as there was some technical problem on my side. Tourettes syndrome is commonly accompanied with depressive symptoms. Many patients of tourettes sydrome which I have seen have co-morbid depression and this needs to be taken care of separately. Even insomnia could be a symptom of depression and ones the depression is treated, the insomnia will settle down on its own. Until then taking xanax is a good option. Depression can be treated with fluoxetine or escitalopram or mirtazapine. All are good first line antidepressants and treat depression effectively. Coming to the main part of Tourettes syndrome, unfortunately the suppliments have never been found effective. There was some initial success with Vit C supplementation and Vit E supplementation but most of my patients have not benefited with the vitamin supplementation. Haloperidol is a drug which I found to be very effective for tics and tourettes syndrome. Given in low doses, it is effective in managing tics. I generally start my patients on 2.5 mg and then gradually increase it to 5mg at night. Hope I am able to answer your concerns. If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you. If not, you may close the discussion and if possible you may rate the answer for me, so that I get a good feedback.
