Question: I am XXXXXXX XXXXXXX Cook, a 58 yr old white female, healthy but I experience many visual disturbances with my eyes closed or open.
I rarely drink a glass of wine, I have never done drugs or smoked. I work out 5 days a week at the YMCA. I lost 30 lbs this year. I am 5'6'' and weigh 152 lbs.. My blood work is good. I had an MRI without contrast last Spring that was all OK and compared to one taken 25 yrs. ago, All good. I take a 1/2 grain of Nature thyroid daily and many vitamins ok'd by my M.D.. Instead of baby aspirin, I take nattokinase 100 mg daily for a mild abnormality of the antibeta 1 glycoprotein IgM antibody as prophylaxis. This blood clotting issue was found after 4 miscarriages.
I tested to be very high in mercury last XXXXXXX I had all my many amalgam fillings replaced once by a hungry young dentist looking for work when I was 24 yrs old and later to get crowns at age 32. My husband is a dentist. This exposed me to a lot of mercury vapor. I wonder if the mercury is not responsible for many of my issues. I am taking a detox for that and my numbers have come from 41 to 13 last test., it should read below 4. I continue to detox with a chelating liquid from my M.D. I am also on a regimin to kill candida/yeast. I take grapefruit seed extact and follow a low carb diet.
I took 9 chelation IV's for plaque and stiff arteries in 2014. I have had 30 total over the years. My Dr. participated in the T.A.C.T trial by the Heart and Lung Assoc. done over 7 yrs. with 1,700 heart patients who had had a heat attack to studying chelation. I was found to be safe and effective.
I have very good vision and healthy eyes.
Symptom History:
26 yrs ago I noticed that I don't have central vision in a semi dark room..night time. I have fewer rods or cones there, a genetic thing.
I have seen a neuro-ophthalmologist last Spring 2015 who found no abnormality with my eyes.
I had many scans, visual field test at optometrists last Saturday Nov.7th. following a concern..see below.
I see peripheral sparkles for a few moments as I walk out into bright sunlight often beginning Sept 2013. This was after my fathers death and a SUPER stressful several weeks for me, high blood pressure, panic moments, etc. My optometrist said it comes from the back of my head when I immediately had it checked. He said to wear sun glasses.
I then noticed blue dots appear in my perioheral vision for a flash on a rare occasion and a spark here or there. I still see these.
My Spring 2014 I noticed as I turned out the light at night I perceived a red cloud like in my vision, I have also seen it green. The neuro-ophthal. said that was light to dark transition. I have seen it walking into a dark room. I lasts breifly, I turn on the light...
I have experience about five migraines with aura and no pain about 5 times in 25 years.
In March 2014 I saw a rainbow arch of colored cirlces -blue,brown, orange, cream colors flash for a second in my vision. It was a day after my last chelation, I wondered if I had a spasm and needed magnesium? Never happened again.
In April I had a migraine with aura witha stressful day at work. Cleared up in less than an hour.
Around XXXXXXX 20th, I was far from home, babysitting for a month for my daughter as she was on bed rest with her 5th baby. I often awoke about 2AM that year and would be awake for hours. I stayed up and read until 1 or 2 and when I awoke that morning BEFORE I opened my eyes I saw a still picture in amazing detail of a white on black oval of lace. My eyes were closed but I was awake and I was amazed my brain could do this.
I opened my eyes and saw a shadow like circle on the wall by the pillow until I blinked. I still often see a circle upon blinking in morning light. Next I noticed a white flash walking in a dark hallway, but could not relate it to after image?? Entopic phenomena?( I see after images after little exposure in bright light.)
The next two mornings I awoke to see a still image of a black city skyline outlined in fluorescent orange and a gray black fish platter.
This still dream image I have found to be called hypnapompia, Now, I usually awake to see black/murky orange striped slender ovals against a dark surface until I open my eyes.
I also experience a dreamlike vision that can be geographic shapes and colors, moving or still, as I fall asleep called hypngogia (wikipedia). It reports these are not associated with disease. Wikipedia details about phosphenes like a twisted chekerboard and I have seen similar images. These shapes can be like a clouds of color moving down a tunnel.
July 2014, I went to my eye doctors as soon as I returned home and my eyes looked great. Next I saw a blue light like on your stove clock. I was napping and looked up and saw a small blue circle on the ceiling. I could see it with either eye. I have seen this blue light a few more times summer of 2014. Still alarmed I went to Dr Wm. Schemmel, thinking he as an ophthalmologist but he was just his partner, he said my eyes were fine that this was in the back of my head, He asked it I slept "face up" on a pillow. I had taken my vitamin supply to the appointment, He said I had taken too many blood thinning things and over did Onega 3 and eating fish and I had damaged blood vessels in the back of my head and these visual manifestations were the result. (Would the MRI show this? It was clean.) I was taking too many vitamins by mistake that month. My Vt. A was about 6.,000 IU of retinol and 21,000 IU of mixed carotinoids for about 5 weeks.
He recommended Dr Avrom Epstein, the neuro-ophthalmologist to see if he could figure it out.. as I noted earlier I saw him last Spring. He had no answers except the light to dark transition. I also see a flash at about 12 o'clock when I blink or move a hand before my eye with my right eye only. It lasts 1/2 second. Dr Epstien said these symptoms do not indicate a disease and to watch the flash. I AM MOST CONCERNED ABOUT THE FLASH.

Three weeks ago I was exposed to loud noise as we power washed a house. I had ear plugs in but one fell out for awhile... 1/2 hour? I added BOSE earmuffs but discovered a new ring in that right ear that has continued. The Ear Nose Throat Dr, checked and I passed the hearing test perfectly and he said the ring would go away. As yet it has not at 3 weeks out. I followed a German protocol to try Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy at 45 feet dive with my Dr,s OK and with the medical directors approval. I had hoped it might help the visual issues too. I did 7 dives in 10 days and found that it temporarily exaggerated some of my symptoms, the right eyes flash and seeing colors with eyes closed a very clear image upon waking one morning. I was completely scanned, pictured, tested Sat. at my optometrrists office again. I called three hospitals and spoke with their hyperbaric staff to assure safety before I participated. All assured me of the safety of hyperbaric. This one had participants wear a hood as the air in the chamber was the same as outside air. We took the hoods off every 1/2 hour to avoid toxicity. My doctor and the director said it could mean the damaged tissues were getting healed...but OK to stop.
I could go on and on. Sorry, I have not found help yet. I have talked with several more doctors. All say just live with it. Ignore it. I would like some answers. Is this circulation? Neurologic? Who might help me? my name is XXXXXXX Cook
