Suggest Remedy For Tingling And Pain In Jaws

Question: I got punched in the face 5 days back. Just above the left ear and behind the temple. Not at all far from ear just above it. and another on the mouth, lips got lacerated because of that. I went to ER after that they treated the laceration with stitches and checked for Jaw fracture, as it was all sore to open. They asked me open it and stretch as far as I can and I could be able to do that. So they ruled out no fracture. Now I have swelling on left side of my face, since 5 days and gradually coming down. But, still swelling is there. I'm also feeling sore jaw, clicking of the jaw while chewing on something and sore cheekbones and occasional twitching of the eye and tingling sensation over cheekbone which is at random occurrences.

I checked for broken cheekbone and it was not flat and cheekbone is fine. But little pain is there if I press down harder on cheekbone, may be it landed on the cheekbone as well. I didn't had any vision problems, decision problems or memory problems till now. Can it be something else? How this swelling, soreness, twitching, tingling can be taken away, I have been using Ice packs twice a day.

Brief Answer:
I think you are being treated adequately.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

Thank youf or posting your query.

I have gone through the entire history and I agree with the line of management your doctors are following . Since you are able to close the mouth without much problem the probability of fracture is reduced . Since you had suffered an injury there is edema or swelling inside the mucosa also because there is inflammation in the tissues and also reactionary edema . This is giving rise to swelling and it will take time to heal . The injuries involving face generally take at least 2 weeks to show some improvement .

Where you have sustained the injury facial nerve is very close so because of the edema the nerve will be irritated which leads to tingling senation over cheek bone which will settle over time .

You have been prescribed right medications and at present we need to wait and watch , nothing more to be done as if now .

Take care.

Thanks doctor, I also have been getting little pulsating sensation at the back of my head. So, all these can be related to recovery of my nerves? I don't need to get panic about these right? and if at all I'd be having any clots, That would have shown signs already?

Dear XXXXXXX

Thank you for reverting back.

Considering present situation this seems to be the most wise way. Truly speaking nothing can be concluded just on history but I dont see any red flag as to panic about . Best is to just wait and watch , let the lesion heal , if the symptoms persist even after healing the further evaluation is recommended otherwise not . Such symptoms are common with such injury and during its healing .
