Brief Answer:
Less likely contrast related

Detailed Answer:
HiXXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
As a radiologist, I have come across thousands of patients who have taken the contrast injection and orally, in my academic career of 10 years. I have not come across any patient with sore throat in particular but did find a few (less than 10) having hives. This happened immediately during and after the cat scan and was treated with medications and subsided spontaneously.

The fact that the sore throat appeared a day later makes it less likely to be related
to the contrast. However, if you were to be my patient, I would have given you a small test dose on the skin (since it has happened earlier) and then waited for any adverse reaction before giving the entire contrast dose.

Please tell your doctor about this incident the next time you are scheduled to have a cat scan with contrast and ask them to give you a test dose and watch for a while before giving complete dose of contrast.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
Dr.Vivek

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

I too hope it does not repeat again. As a routine we take double precautions for any patient having a history of the slightest reaction in the past. We give a test dose of 1 ml and wait for 5 minutes and also keep emergency medications ready should there be an adverse reaction. With such protocols in place you will always be safe. Please be sure to inform the cat scan staff about your previous experiences.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
Dr.Vivek
