Posted on Thu, 6 Nov 2014
Question: Hi,

I have swelling 2 inches below my belly button which is 7 inches long (3.5 inches to left + 3.5 inch to right) and 2 inches wide. When I pressed could feel some ball sort of thing on the end of either side of the swollen area and also have pain in that area. What could this possibly be ??

I am female 25 years old.

Brief Answer:
Possibly a swelling from the pelvic adnexa.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX! Good afternoon.

I am Dr Shareef answering your query.

The area of the swelling noted by you points to the pelvic adnexa as the origin of your swelling, which could be be tense cyst (ovarinan cyst) or could be a fibroid apart from any other swelling arising from any other intraabdominal viscera.

If I were your doctor, I would advise you for an ultrasound of the abdomen to know the origin of the swelling followed by a CT/MRI scan if need be. Further management would depend on the physical findings of a clinical examination by a gynaecologist and the reports of the investigation. The management as it seems to me from the history alone would possibly be surgical.

Therefore, I would advise you to take an appointment with a gynaecologist of your area and follow her advice on the same.
