Question: My husband is 51 yrs old. He is currently having a stabbing back pain in his left back in kidney area. He has thrown up and had black loose stools today. Also has taken one day of cipro antibiotics. What could the problem be?

I read you question and i understand your concern. Back pain, throwing up and loose motion suggest likely of acute gastroenteritis but other etiologies should be considered too. Get him evaluated, his stools assessed as black color may need evaluation to rule out any blood in it. Cipro alone should not be relied upon and that may be worsening the symptoms.

get the work up done and let them sort it out for you. Gastroenteritis / stomach flu should be considered first. BRAT diet ( banana, rice, applesauce and toast), green tea and pomegranate juices will help the bowel symptoms.
