Question: Hello Doctor, I have undergone a root canal treatment recently in three sitting. (upper side on right side last third tooth). Crown is still pending. On 3rd May the third sitting was done in which calcium was placed in my tooth. Doctor said I should be fine to eat everything now. Yesterday I tried chewing from the treated side and felt pain in that tooth. So I visited my dentist again and she said wound is healing now and as she had placed calcium leaving .5mm gap to the root so I shall wait for few more days to get normal. I am not feeling any pain until I bite but feels a sort of uneasiness on whole right side upto the cheek and head. And eating from that side seems impossible as of now. Please suggest is it all normal to feel such things after root canal treatment?

Brief Answer:
Seems that the infection is not completely healed, wait for a week..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain you have discomfort while chewing from the side that is having a recently Root Canal Treated tooth in which calcium dressing is placed..

Well, it is true that if infection is not completely healed there can be some discomfort or pain present..

Calcium dressing acts as a disinfectant and helps in removing residual infection..

So as the Calcium dressing is placed you should wait till one week is completed and right now avoid chewing from that side..

In case if after one week also the condition stays the same then it is not normal and some discrepancy is present with root canal treatment..

One more information that I would like to give you is that calcium dressing is not the final treatment and you still have one final sitting pending in which the root canals will be filled with an inert material and then a permanent filling will be done followed by capping..

So as of now even if pain subsides, do not directly go for capping and get confirmation done that the final filling has been done or not..

Also I would like you to send me a scan of your xvray of the tooth for better understanding and guiding you further more precisely..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.

Hi again, There was no x ray done up till now. And doctor said that this was final sitting and she will take measurement of cap in 15 days if everything works fine. I am not sure if this is not the permanent filling. I will wait till Sunday and will see doctor again if it does not work good. Right now it hurts at a point while chewing. Do I need to visit another doctor for an opinion or shall wait for it to heal?

Brief Answer:
No need to visit another doctor..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..

As per your reply, you should wait and watch as of now and wait till Sunday.

If the pain resolves it is fine or else get an x ray done and get checked for the cause.

Avoid chewing from that side.

When you see your dentist ask about permanent filling of the root canals also known as Obturation, whether it is done or not.

Another thing is that do not get the capping done till the pain is totally gone.

Revert back soon.

Regards..
